It is recommended to submerge the entire body up to the neck in cold water (32 degrees Fahrenheit) between a minimum of 10 minutes and a maximum of 20 minutes.

Ice baths were at first required and then welcomed when I was a athlete in college. To this day I will ice bath to relieve sore muscles (sometimes using an ice bath sometimes using the pacific ocean in the winter).
